Afghan Refugees

Afghan Refugee Support

Two weekends ago we had about 200 individuals visit our warehouse and they were supported with the items required. Also, we had our partner organisation Cook4CALD who delivered over 200 meals (Chicken Biryani) with drinks for distribution to the families.

We had the deputy char of Victorian Multicultural Commission and representatives from HWPL (International Peace Foundation) who supported us with distribution of items.

This weekend's delivery was fantastic, the items, clothes, shoes, pillows, blankets etc were in excellent condition. The families were really happy. We have distributed almost everything. We will be expecting a couple of Ukranian families next week. I have been in touch with them, I am just waiting for them to send me the list of items they need.

On behalf of the community and Bakhtar team, I would like to thank you and the Team at Rotary Club of North Balwyn for the exceptional support.

Regards

School Breakfast Program
Rotary Club of North Balwyn

Breakfast Program 2022

Hi Everyone!

School Breakfast Programs have been a success with students at schools worldwide. In fact, studies have shown improved concentration and general
disposition amongst students involved in such programs.

A current program exists at one of our local primary schools, which we have assisted previously in other projects. We have been asked if we could assist with the program.

What is it?:  This program provides a hot brekky each Thursday.

Time Commitment: Thursdays before school. The program doesn't operate in school holidays. Whilst commitment is needed, if you're having holidays during term or have other commitments on particular Thursdays that's not a problem.

Cost: Nil

Benefits:

- Satisfaction with assisting young students
- A volunteer activity that does not require preparation before or afterwards!
- Being an Inspiration!
- Enthusiastic students and staff
- Off street parking at the school.
- Lovely 'thank you' cards from the students at years end ©

Where:         St Bridget's Primary, Sweyn St., Greythorn.

Who can volunteer: Any Rotary member and/or their partners.

What do you need?: A current Working with Children card and a desire to help young students.

Interested?: Please contact Philip Wade (M) 0409826078 or email amelben@bigpond.net.au

Health Tip
Supplemental Vitamin D Is Necessary!

Vitamin D status has emerged as a significant public health issue in Australia and New Zealand. An estimated 31% of adults in Australia have inadequate vitamin D, increasing to more than 50% during winter and in people residing in the southern states.

It has been a difficult task pinpointing the health benefits of Vitamin D, but over a number of years and a plethora of research papers it is now time to take Vitamin D seriously.
