 ROTARY SAFE FAMILIES- ELDER ABUSE
Deborah Craven and Graeme Bird presented a very informative opportunity for RCNB members and guests to learn more about elder abuse.

Deborah clearly explained how increased funding by Governments indicate the seriousness and public acknowledgement of the scope the problem family abuse is.

Graeme reported results from the National Elder Abuse Prevalence Study Final Report. Graeme highlighted, as the Australian population continues to age, potential for elder abuse is likely to increase. The surprising finding from the report found psychological abuse (11.7% from 7,000 interviewees) is now the most prominent type of abuse. Financial abuse was reported by 2.7% of interviewees.

Deborah invited members to share their experiences of elder abuse. In the limited time available it became evident elder abuse is a delicate, complex issue in families.
