President Maurie and Kris are enjoying a well-earned holiday in New Zealand. After two years of travel bans due to lockdowns, they were excited to reunite with their son and his family who live in Auckland.
Back here at home, thirty-nine members and guests met at our regular meeting venue, Kew Golf Club. Guest speaker Paul Pryor is an executive with Aon Insurance. Paul specialises in insurance for the mining industry and gave us an insight into the intricate procedures involved to insure large mining companies against a full range of incidents that may happen in both surface and underground mining. The premiums can run into the billions of dollars and involve insurers and reinsurers to spread the risk.

Earlier in the week I had been reading an article in the Cosmos magazine entitled 'The Science of the Sausage Sizzle'. The article examined several issues, such as, what's actually in the sausage?, what's in the casing?, what's in plain white bread? and the onion conundrum.
Today, election day, I was at our Rotary Club's sausage sizzle at Genazzano and had an opportunity to read the ingredient's list of Coles Thin Beef BBQ Sausages.
An enthusiastic team from Camberwell Grammar accepted the challenge to shift around six cubic metres of soil from the carpark to the new raised garden bed at the Camcare Kitchen Garden. But they couldn’t do it on their own.

Southern Region is seeking a suitable candidate to email an ‘Expressions of Interest’ for this position to the Southern Region Supervisor Gloria Hargreaves. Approval by your District Governor for your appointment is required. Orientation and mentoring will be provided
If you are placed in a position of aiding an older person:
Talk and listen to the older person
Respect, believe and do not judge
Remind them they are not to blame
Provide choices not interventions
Empower them to make their own decisions
Let them know there is help available
Offer to make a call on their behalf
Continue to offer support and encouragement even if the person is not ready to accept help at the time
