From our Vice President
Members, partners and guests were fortunate to be addressed by Dr Bec Sheean who is the Research Director at FightMND.

Bec’s passionate presentation pointed out that MND is a genetic disease not necessarily passed on through the family, ageing is another factor.

Not all people have the same symptoms, upper and lower body differ, the common signs are weight loss, difficulty speaking, tripping over, weakness and dropping things.

Although there is no known cause, researchers have found that professional sports people and Military personnel have a higher risk as well as people who come in contact with Blue-Green algae.

A Wonderful Journey

A Wonderful Experience

For nine years I was a member of the RC North Balwyn. Eileen Toohill asked me after a fitness group session , "Would I like to attend a meeting where you have to dress up a bit and you have a meal with other adults once a week?"  To me that sounded like it was worth investigating.

And from there my story with RCNB began to unfold. It was such a rich experience in many ways and I learnt so much about Governance, implementing projects and that a Rotary sausage takes eight minutes to be properly cooked (Thanks to Bill Oakley).

Know your onions
How Well do You Know Your Onions ?

In Australia the traditional barbeque, or sausage sizzle, includes fried or caramelised onions as an accompaniment to the grilled sausage.  Onions are one of the most ubiquitous ingredients in the culinary arts, they can be roasted, grilled, pickled, caramelized, battered and deep-fried, sliced thinly or chopped and served raw in salads, sandwiches, dips, or as a garnish for tacos.

Most people would not be aware that onions are a good source of health and nutrition, but peer-reviewed research has shown that onions are anti-inflammatory, anticancer and beneficial to heart health.
