From President Maurie

Last week

Great presentation from our guest speaker  (PP RC Balwyn) Councillor Di Gillies concerning her work and journey with the City of Boroondara.

Wonderful to see that past member Graham Foard and his wife Gwenda both received OAMs (see the item later in Grapevine!)

I was a guest at North Balwyn Heights Probus Club 25 year celebration last Wednesday. (Albeit 2 years late due to COVID.)

The Probus club was formed in Peter Cleary’s year as RCNB President. (1994/5) Geoff Kneale’s father Bill was the foundation President and Gwenda Foard the VP.

When TLC Aged Care was born in 1991, the acronym stood for something in addition to “Tender Loving Care” – it also stood in place of The Leaper Corporation.

That company was named after Dr. John Leaper, who founded TLC when he purchased two Victorian mansions operating as aged care facilities in Geelong. After realising that those buildings would not meet future consumer demands, he built TLC’s first modern facility in Wallington, calling it “The Homestead”.

Geoff's Health Tip
Grounding, otherwise known as Earthing

You always remember the holidays when you first arrive at the beach. You immediately take off your socks and shoes to feel the soft touch of the sand as it ran between your toes.

The sand was friendly and you enjoyed it. There was a good feeling in the arch of your foot similar to that feeling when walking bare-foot on a newly-cut lawn.  One could easily dismiss this feeling by saying, "well what would you expect?" but deeper analysis has unearthed the reason for this feeling and how it may help people with mental and other issues.

Gardening Project 2022

Our Gardening Program will commence on February 4 with schools keen to participate and give some joy to our deserving home owners, many have been left without help last year due to Covid restrictions.

We have a full list of jobs to attend to so check the roster and see if you can help our shrinking team do this important service.

The last two COVID years has put pressure on both the schools and our members to try and keep this project alive. We have achieved that.

Also to assist with the Rotary members involvement invitations to other Rotary Clubs in the Boroondara  area have been sent to check their interest to assist in keeping this project successful. However this is primarily a NBRC initiative so if you have experience in our Gardening project or would like to assist, Please call me any time.

Regards

Neil Marshall
