From President Maurie
Last week

Guest Speaker

We were treated to a most interesting talk by PE Sue McDonald whose journey to date from WA to Victoria has featured hard work, strong family and great professional achievement. We know that she continues to contribute professionally and we have observed during her many years as a NBRC member, her willingness to volunteer to help those in need.

As this is my final president’s report, I thank all members and partners for their efforts over the year. Of course, I am especially indebted to all members of the board and to Sergeant Rowan.

This week

Thursday June 30   -  NO MEETING

Sunday July 3

I look forward to handing over to Sue and enjoying the Changeover Lunch at Box Hill Golf Club.

Thursday July 7

Club Directors will each speak to members outlining their responsibilities and aspirations.

Vale Jo Wells
Vale Jo Wells

We were all saddened to learn of the passing of our dear friend Jo Wells at Eva Tilley on 18th June following her long illness and extend our condolences to Tony and his family.

Jo was a much loved friend of all associated with the Rotary Club. For almost  two decades Jo has contributed so much through her active involvement and leadership in the establishment and operation of the ladies Christmas Fair, the Days For Girls project and her support for all our activities.

Jo was awarded a Paul Harris Recognition for her extensive contributions to the projects of the Rotary Club and will be missed by her many friends.

In accordance with her wishes Jo will be farewelled with a private family funeral which will be screened on line as per the details communicated to Members.

Farewell to our very special friend Jo.
The Blue Jar
The Blue and White Jar's Secret

I was very young when I first saw this unusual blue and white ceramic jar sitting on the mantlepiece in the dining room of our home.  I remember my mother told me that she obtained it from a Chinese herbalist who resided in Woodhouse Grove, Box Hill.  I was told the jar was from China, and it contained a 'medicine' that was very rare.

The jar just seemed to be a decoration because I never saw the medicine being used, but of course it was for pregnant women like my mother at that time, seeking relief when she needed it most.

R100 Playground Project

R100 Playground Project

Evening everyone,

I thought that you would like to know that our R100 Playground Project at Yarra Bank Reserve was awarded a District Recognition today at the District 9800 Changeover. The comments that were made included that the project 'ticked' all the boxes for a successful community project - it involved collaboration between partner clubs, and with the local council, it engaged the community and a large number of Rotarians, was well implemented and publicised and it has left a lasting legacy, strengthened relationships and strengthened Rotary.

There were a great many friendships forged during the two years it took to bring that project to fruition, but it has been widely applauded since. The District Recognition is the icing on the cake. Thanks to you all for everything that you did and congratulations!

Kind regards,

Richard Blakeman

Past President 2017-18

Communications & Public Image

N.B PP Richard Blakeman was awarded a PHF Recognition by District for his work on the project and on the Foundation Committee.

Our own PP Jane Pennington also gained a further recognition for her contribution at District level (as District Secretary).
