Having completed Stage 1 of the Rotary year we have eased into Stage 2 and 2022 a little sluggishly as life in a Covid world continues to challenge us.
It was good to see 30 smiling faces and to hear from members involved in planning and managing our Service activities. As it is for our secretary Gavan and treasurer Geoff the wheel forever rolls on even when we have a break. I acknowledge the great work they do and thank not only them but all members who helped with donations to refugee families and those who help fill the rosters for SecondBite/Camcare, gardening, Camberwell market, catering events and RIMERN.
Guest speaker Nicholas Foster CEO of IQ Energy provided an insight into what he and his father Charles are doing to help clean up the planet by designing, building and marketing modular Waste-to-Resources systems that convert environmentally damaging waste streams destined for burning or landfill, into valuable products including clean energy, clean water, clean air and clean nutrients for food production.

One which recognises the importance of heritage structures, spaces and human experiences, and one that implements meaningful climate change responses.”

People with Parkinson's Disease should eat more Berries
A new study shows that people with Parkinson’s disease who eat a diet that includes three or more servings per week of foods high in flavonoids, like tea, apples, berries, and red wine, benefit more than people who do not eat as many flavonoids. The research is published in the January 26, 2022, online issue of Neurology®, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology.
The study looked at several types of flavonoids and found that higher consumption of flavan-3-ols and anthocyanins, both before and after a Parkinson’s diagnosis, was beneficial.
Our Gardening Program will commence on February 4 with schools keen to participate and give some joy to our deserving home owners, many have been left without help last year due to Covid restrictions.
We have a full list of jobs to attend to so check the roster and see if you can help our shrinking team do this important service.
The last two COVID years has put pressure on both the schools and our members to try and keep this project alive. We have achieved that.
Also to assist with the Rotary members involvement invitations to other Rotary Clubs in the Boroondara area have been sent to check their interest to assist in keeping this project successful. However this is primarily a NBRC initiative so if you have experience in our Gardening project or would like to assist, Please call me any time.
