Recycle your unwanted items for needy new arrivals in Melbourne.
Our Refugee Families Support project is progressing well and as of February 2023, we’ve sent 70 truckloads of donated goods that have helped thousands of families settle into their new homes. It’s thanks to many generous donors who have committed their redundant household goods to us rather than landfill.

The project is progressing well and as of February 2023, we’ve sent 70 truckloads of donated goods that have helped thousands of families settle into their new homes. It’s thanks to many generous donors who have committed their redundant household goods to us rather than landfill.

Currently, we don’t need more clothes, lamps or toys. What we do need are appliances that are in good working order. This includes kitchen items, washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, microwaves and TVs as well as bedding (cushions, sheets, pillows, blankets and doonas), small furniture items (side tables, dressers) and household goods such as crockery, cutlery and cookware.

Bicycles of all sizes are popular, but they need to be clean and in working order.  We sometimes need beds and mattresses of various sizes and dining tables and chairs. Please don’t give us broken or dirty items. Everything must be in good condition and laundered or cleaned.

It would be great if you could drop items off to us at 417 Belmore Road, Balwyn North (adjacent to the Koonung Heights Uniting Church) as we have limited transport options to handle collections. Hours of opening are noon on Saturdays for about 90 minutes and Tuesdays from 2pm to 5pm.

An option for larger items is that they could be transported at donor cost to a recipient’s home in the south-eastern suburbs by arrangement, or to the Bakhtar Community Organisation warehouse at 61 Heyington Crescent Noble Park early on Saturday for Sunday afternoons.

If that’s not financially possible for large items, donors should email RIMERN (Rotary Inner Melbourne Emergency Relief Network donatedgoods@rimern.org.au or EEN (Eastern Emergency Network) warehouse@easternemergency.org.au. Both are excellent organisations with trucks to collect donated items to help refugees and other needy people.
